Alan Docs

Documentation updates

Changes to the Alan documentation site.

2026-10-26 — The core flows, end to end

Part 6 of the documentation update: everything a new user needs to connect GitHub, create a task, have an agent complete it, use skills, check their plan, and set up an automation, each with a captioned video.

Added

Changed

Removed

  • The claim that deleted skills can be restored for 30 days from the app.

2026-10-26 — Every section refreshed

Part 5 of the documentation update: the remaining sections were rewritten against the current product.

Added

  • Feature catalog: every feature with where to find it, who can use it, and which tiers include it.
  • A cover for each section: a screenshot of the relevant Alan screen, shown on the section's first page and on its docs home card.
  • New screenshots for Cloud and local, Automations, Integrations, Pull requests, and Troubleshooting.

Changed

Removed

  • The abstract section illustrations at the top of every page; a section cover now appears only on each section's first page.
  • Pages and steps for things the product no longer has: Profile → Computer, MCP sync, manual Pause/Stop/Delete sandbox, Resume existing run, environment Archive/Restore, webhook and manual automation triggers, the PR review artifact type, and Refresh desktop.

2026-10-26 — Teams and planning refreshed

Part 4 of the documentation update.

Added

  • A captioned tour video of epics, cycles, and docs on Cycles.
  • New screenshots of the Epics page, an epic, the Cycles page, cycle settings, the Docs page, a document, and a whiteboard.

Changed

  • Epics: epics are off for new teams until enabled; statuses are customizable per team; the epic tabs are Overview, Tasks, Artifacts, and Activity; the health signal is no longer shown in the product and was removed from the page.
  • Cycles: cycles are off for new teams until enabled; with Auto-close expired cycles on, Alan now creates the next cycle using the team's period (Week, 2 weeks, Month, or custom) and moves unfinished tasks into it.
  • Documents: templates, the Add new menu, the list tabs, and Publish to web with /share/docs/<id> links.
  • Whiteboard: Add new → New whiteboard, plus comments and publishing.

Removed

  • Team overview: the overview screen no longer exists. Its address redirects to Members and teams.

2026-10-26 — New sections: Skills and plugins, Plans and billing, Administration

Three new sections, each with its own card and illustration on the docs home page.

Added

  • Skills and plugins: Skills (team skills, the Discover catalog from skills.sh, using / in the composer) and Plugins and MCP (the plugin marketplace and MCP connectors).
  • Plans and billing: Plans and limits (feature tiers, the features each includes, per-seat usage plans and allowances, seats) and Usage and credits (team usage, cloud credits, and what happens at a limit).
  • Administration: Organisation settings, Members and teams, and the Org Dashboard.
  • Screenshots for every new page. Plan prices are blurred in screenshots because the capture used a test billing account; prices are marked Needs confirmation.

Changed

  • Docs home: Cloud and local now uses the agents illustration and Reference the epics illustration, so no two neighbouring sections share artwork with Administration.

2026-10-26 — Tasks refreshed

Part 3 of the documentation update. Each flow was run for real against a local build, including an agent writing a plan for a task.

Added

  • A captioned walkthrough video on Create a task: describe a task, let Alan propose fields and subtasks, run a Plan-mode session, and open the saved plan.
  • New screenshots of the Tasks page, both create-task modes, the task page Overview, and a plan artifact.

Changed

  • Create a task: Agent mode now shows a live Alan proposes preview with suggested subtasks. The retired Create & start shortcut and "mapping the task details" text are gone.
  • Task detail: rewritten for the current layout: header with Start, session tabs on the left, and Task Overview, Artifacts, Desktop, Changes, Terminal, and Files panels on the right.
  • Subtasks and status: the six default statuses in four groups (Not started, Active, Done, Closed) replace a list of one team's custom statuses.
  • Task artifacts: artifact types are Plan, Test report, Document, and Whiteboard. Prototype and PR review are not artifact types.

Removed

  • Four outdated task screenshots replaced by the new captures.

2026-10-25 — Agents and sessions refreshed, MacBook walkthrough videos

Part 2 of the documentation update. Pages were checked against main and a real agent session run against a local build.

Added

  • A captioned walkthrough video on Start a session: choose a target, machine, folder, agent profile, and model, then watch a real agent run, expand its steps, and review the diff.
  • New screenshots of the composer controls, execution target menu, agent picker, model picker, session list, a finished transcript, Alan Agent settings, codebase indexing, and the context graph.
  • Walkthrough videos now show the app on a MacBook screen with cursor-led zooms, click sounds, captions, and title and end cards. The Quickstart video was re-rendered in this style.

Changed

  • Start a session: rewritten for the current composer (execution target with Remote machines and folders, Team or Individual sessions, Agent or Plan mode) and the live transcript.
  • Agent profiles: profiles are chosen from the composer's + menu, and General Agent, not Orchestrator, is the default for every new session, including task sessions.
  • Coding agents and models: the model picker, where agents are configured now (computers are under Settings → General in the desktop app), organization model controls, and Alan Agent's custom provider.
  • Code context: indexing moved to Settings → Integrations → Codebase indexing, with the current statuses and actions; added the context graph.
  • Session lifecycle: the real turn states (Working, Waiting for input, Worked, Stopped) and the delivery states of messages sent while an agent works.

2026-10-25 — Get Started refreshed against the current product

Part 1 of the documentation update for the current product. Every claim on these pages was checked against the main source code and a running local build.

Added

Changed

  • Sign in and first run: the onboarding wizard now matches the product. It has no theme or separate agents step, adds the desktop-only "Make this computer yours" step, and finishes on New Session rather than the Tasks board.
  • Quickstart: new teams start with Tasks, Cycles, and Epics turned off, so the guide now starts by enabling Tasks. It replaces the retired Create & Start button with the current Start work flow.
  • Connect GitHub: rewritten for Settings → Integrations → Add connection, team-only versus organization-wide connections, and who may link repositories.
  • Product map: Workflows are now Automations, sessions can exist without a task, and artifacts are plans, test reports, documents, and whiteboards (prototypes and PR-review artifacts are not artifact types).
